Did You Know? Part II
MYTH:  Botox is like poison.
FACT:  Botox is not poison but it is the most popular physician-administered cosmetic treatment in the world.  It is a natural, highly purified protein that reduces the activity of facial muscles that cause frown, squint and scowl lines/wrinkles.  Botox is one of the most studied drugs in the world with over 1800 published studies.  Over 4.6 million people were treated with Botox in our country last year.

MYTH: Mini-facelifts are effective and cheap
FACT: Mini-procedures that claim to do more for less will always lead to mini-results.  Unlike a "mini-facelift", a properly performed face and neck lift is the best way to reverse the predictable signs of facial aging.  Many women are dissatisfied with their results after mini-procedures and frequently seek additional surgery to achieve the results they desired.

MYTH: My results will be the same no matter who performs my plastic surgery.
Plastic surgery is an art.  Not all artists are created equal and experienced artists are your best bet.

MYTH: Plastic surgery leaves no scars.
FACT: All surgery, including plastic surgery, leaves scars and "scarless surgery" does not exist.  Plastic Surgeons are trained to place incisions in strategic locations to minimize the visability of scars and close incisions precisely with special techniques to optimize the cosmetic appearance of scars.

MYTH: Breast implants must be replaced every 10 years.
There is no evidence or credible scientific claim to support this statement. Implants should not be perceived as being permanent devices.  Re-operation at some point should be expected but implants could last 6 month, 6 years or 60 years.
